abstract	Multi-instrumentalist band that invented Dream Pop. The name derived from the %22A%22 in Alex (Ayuli) and the %22R%22 in Rudi (Tambala), the band's core duo. A.R. Kane ushered in two significant musical movements in England: %22sampladelic%22 dance and house music, where it remains an integral part of rave culture and its outgrowths.They also exerted a profound sonic influence on the legion of trippy Shoegazer guitar bands that would emerge a few years later in the UK, as well as running H.ark!.

They are noted for pioneering a style known as dream pop during the late 1980s, integrating guitar feedback, studio experimentation, and elements of house, jazz, and dub music into an amorphous whole. Despite fairly limited commercial success—the group scored a surprise worldwide dance hit with 1987's %22Pump Up the Volume%22 as part of the one-off collaboration MARRS—they have been characterized as among the most innovative groups of their era.
